Prelates are San'Shyuum that are almost completely covered by a black combat suit. They are often seen carrying a gun.

Prelates are San'Shyuum that were genetically altered by Forerunner machinery within High Charity's Sacred Promissory. These alterations removed their harmful recessive traits, allowing for them to have children. One such Prelate, Tem'Bhetek, married a female and had a child. During the Great Schism and the eventual Flood outbreak, Tem'Bhetek's family was consumed by the Flood. Angered by the Sangheili, he started his own faction and fought against the Sangheili. He was later killed by Rtas 'Vadum's forces.
