The broodlord is in reality a type of genestealer commander. Like Hive Tyrants, they bear the "synapse" ability to channel the Hive Mind's psychic command into lesser Tyranid strains.
There is a zerg strain known as the Brood Lord, but this is not at all related to the Tyranid strain.
